Natural Bridge Park Resort

Natural Bridge Park is a Kentucky state park located along the Middle Fork of the Red River in Powell and Wolfe counties. The park is located next to the Red River Gorge Geologic Area which is also a very beautiful place that you might want to consider visiting during your trip to Kentucky. The Natural Bridge Park is actually surrounded by the beautiful and stunning Daniel Boone National Forest. The centerpiece of the National Bridge Park is the natural bridge. This is a natural sandstone arch that spans seventy eight feet and is sixty five feet high. The bridge was formed due to the natural process of weathering over the years.

Natural Bridge Park

The National Bridge Park itself spans an area of approximately two thousand three hundred acres. One thousand two hundred acres of the park is actually dedicated by the Kentucky State Nature Preserves Commission as a nature preserve. This has a lot to do with the fact that the first federally endangered Virginia big eared bats that were recorded in Kentucky were actually found at the Natural Bridge Park in the 1950s. Those who are visiting the National Bridge Park can spend their nights at the Hemlock Lodge. There are thirty five rooms available at the lodge. Each room has a private balcony. You can get a really excellent view of the park and the forest from the balcony of your room. Those who would rather wake up in the forest can book a cottage. Youll be able to wake up, step out of your cottage and enjoy the beautiful ambiance of the surrounding forest. There are four two bedroom cottages available as well as seven one bedroom cottages.

Many people visit the park hoping that they will be able to sleep under the stars at a campsite. There are two campgrounds available at the park including the Whittleton Campground and the Middle Fork Campground. Together the two campgrounds provide a total of eighty two campsites. Each of these campsites is equipped with utilities. Those who consider themselves hardcore campers will want to enjoy one of the twelve primitive campsites which are also available at the park. Dump stations and two central service buildings are also available for your convenience. The campgrounds are closed from mid-November to mid-March. From time to time, the park puts on very special naturalist and recreation programs as well as other happenings. You will want to check out the calendar available on the main website of the park to tell when these events take place as this will allow you to plan your trip accordingly. There are many other things to do while visiting the park including boating, riding the sky life, swimming, walking hiking trails and even visiting Hoedown Island.

A watercraft rental facility is available at the park. It can be found a short walk away from the pool complex. Here you can rent pedal boats and hydrobikes. The sky lift will provide you with an amazing view of the Natural Bridge. You need to travel one half a mile from the park entrance to find the sky life entrance. You will end up within six hundred feet of Natural Bridge once you reach the top of the lift.
